One of the main causes of sweating for kids and teenagers is vigorous exercise, just as it happens with adults. Sweat secretion is a completely normal process of the organism that regulates body temperature -that is, helps the body to cool down, thus, avoiding overheating- while also expelling various useless substances.<\/p>\n

But what happens when their perspiration is accompanied by bad odor? Is it normal?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Body odor in children is normal and usually begins in early adolescence (around the age of 8) when the first hormonal changes occur. Generally, body odors firstly appear in children when their armpits\u2019 apocrine glands are activated.<\/p>\n

What causes body odor?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sweat is almost odorless, despite the misconception that body odors are caused by sweat. In fact, the unpleasant odor is caused by bacteria that are excreted through perspiration and remain on the skin surface.<\/p>\n

What can you do?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Surely, you cannot limit your children\u2019s daily activities nor can you regulate the production of sweat. Though, you can deal with the bad odors caused by perspiration, following the advice below:<\/p>\n

– Make sure they take a bath or shower every day, paying special attention to the areas with sweat glands, such as armpits.<\/p>\n

For some children, though, especially those that are extremely active, a bath is not enough to prevent body odors throughout the day.<\/strong><\/p>\n
