Our hands -unlike any other part of our body- are “bare” and daily exposed to external conditions that cause them suffering. In fact, since many of us neglect or ignore to take constant and proper care of our hands and skin, thus not giving them the treatment and hydration needed, we can understand why -especially during winter when the weather is cold- our hands become “rough”, dry or cracked.<\/p>\n

Why do our hands “crack” during the winter?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The epidermis of the hands is particularly sensitive and, especially during winter, is constantly exposed to factors that can cause severe dehydration and dryness, such as:<\/p>\n

Weather conditions:<\/strong> Abrupt changes in temperature, intense humidity, extremely low temperatures, as well as freezing, affect the normal pH of the skin, causing dehydration and dryness, which can lead even to cracks or wounds.<\/p>\n

Hot water:<\/strong> Frequent hand cleansing combined with the use of very hot water (we usually prefer it during winter) tends to remove the skin’s protective lipid layers, leading to itchiness and dry skin.<\/p>\n

Excessive use of antiseptics:<\/strong> With all the germs and viruses posing a threat during winter, in order to stay protected and take care of hygiene, most people tend to wash their hands and apply antiseptic lotions more often. For sure, this is not negative, but all in moderation. Always depending on one\u2019s skin type, excessive and superfluous use of soaps and antiseptics may cause severe dryness of the skin.<\/p>\n

Now, if we take as well under consideration that various household chores require the use of detergents and most people do not wear protective gloves, along with the insufficient and inappropriate hand care provided to our skin, then it becomes quite clear that our hands suffer greatly during winter.<\/p>\n
