Cellulite is an endogenous change in skin’s consistency, which affects mostly women. It is formed due to the abnormal concentration of fat and water between the skin and the subcutaneous tissue. The connective tissue loses its elasticity (collagen), so the skin takes an abnormal look, known as the “orange peel appearance”. It mainly occurs in certain parts of the body, such as thighs, buttocks, abdomen, arms and calves. Even though it doesn’t pose a health risk, it’s an aesthetic problem that affects our psychology in a negative way.
Diet always comes first when it comes to cellulite (unless it occurs due to heredity or possible hormonal disorders), so let’s start by noticing the changes we need to make in our diet plan:
Reduce fats: Excessive consumption of fats along with carbohydrates causes hyperinsulinemia and increased lipogenesis, enhancing the appearance of cellulite. Dietary labels on food packaging can help you reduce the total fat you consume through your diet.
Avoid salt: Fluid retention, which occurs due to excessive salt intake, worsens the orange peel appearance. Flavor your food by replacing salt with spices and avoid the consumption of processed foods.
Increase fiber: A low-fiber diet leads to constipation, while increasing venous pressure in the lower extremities. Include fiber-rich foods into your diet, such as whole grains, fruits or vegetables.
Adequacy of fluids, reduction of alcohol: Aim to consume at least 2 liters of water per day, while replenishing the fluids you lose by drinking natural fruit and vegetable juices. In addition, the consumption of alcoholic beverages should be avoided as they cause dehydration.
However, apart from a balanced diet, it is important to adopt habits such as:
Physical activity: Sedentary lifestyle is directly related to the appearance of cellulite, so include walking, running or cycling in your daily routine. Alternatively, exercising at home with light weights will help you reduce fat as well as stimulate muscles in the areas where it’s most commonly stored, such as thighs, buttocks and abdomen.
Reduction (or cessation) of smoking: Smoking fills the body with toxins, while destroying collagen, an important protein for good skin quality as well as elasticity.
Dry brushing: Dedicate 10’ before taking a bath or a shower to stimulate both blood circulation and your lymphatic system. With a special brush, massage your body in an upwards motion, insisting on the areas where the “problem” is located.
Mask for cellulite, tightening and localized fat: Coffee and cocoa contain caffeine, one of the main ingredients of slimming products with a strong fat-dissolving action that helps to remove excess fluid, improves swelling and decongests fatty tissues. Ivy and birch oils will help to reduce the volume of fat cells and will release water, while also stimulating lymphatic circulation, thus contributing to the detoxification and decongestion of the area.
You will need:
½ cup of coffee grounds (filter coffee or greek)
½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
2 teaspoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon MACROVITA Ivy Oil
1 teaspoon MACROVITA Birch Oil
Put the wet and fresh coffee grounds into a bowl with the rest of the ingredients and mix. Apply sufficient quantity of the mixture to the desired areas, wrap with a film and leave on for 20-30′, before rinsing off with lukewarm water. You can repeat this process as often as you wish.
